Florida PACE Centers embraced National Hispanic Heritage Month with enthusiasm and cultural pride. This year’s theme, “Pioneers of Change: Shaping the Future Together,” honored the invaluable contributions of Hispanic and Latino trailblazers who created pathways for future generations across various fields, from education and science to business, arts, and social justice. The theme resonated deeply with the spirit of innovation and resilience that characterizes Hispanic culture in America.
In October, our Westchester location hosted a memorable celebration that transformed their space into a lively cultural festival, drawing more than 50 participants for a culinary journey across Latin America and beyond. The event featured stations showcasing traditional dishes from various countries, from savory empanadas to sweet arroz con leche. Each country was represented by a decorated table adorned with national flags, colorful textiles, and handcrafted ornaments – creating an authentic and immersive cultural experience. The festive atmosphere was enhanced by live musical performances from Mind&Melody, filling the space with energetic tunes.
The dedication of PACE employees was particularly noteworthy, as they arrived early to prepare or collect dishes and dressed in traditional attire. Activities Coordinator Angelica Mendoza captured the spirit of the occasion, said, “Our Hispanic Heritage Month celebration was a wonderful way to bring our community together. The food, music, and colorful decorations helped us honor the rich traditions of Latin America and beyond, creating a joyful and memorable experience for everyone.”
Our Miami location honored Hispanic Heritage Month, as well. The facility was beautifully decorated with flags representing various countries. PACE employees added a playful touch by donning coordinated avocado-themed shirts, contributing to the warm and welcoming atmosphere. Participants were treated to performances by Mariachi Nuevo Tepango and a Honduran folk dance ensemble.
With these events, Florida PACE Centers not only celebrated the rich cultural heritage of their Hispanic participants but also underscored their commitment to fostering community connections in South Florida.
